Founded in 1869, Livermore is California’s oldest wine region. Historic Downtown Livermore offers shopping, dining and entertainment. Livermore is the home of two DOE National Laboratories, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. Livermore is accessible from Interstate 580 and has Livermore has a WHEELS bus system, a municipal airport and two stations for the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE), a commuter train which runs from Stockton to San Jose. More About Livermore CA
According to the latest U.S. Census information, Livermore is the third wealthiest midsize city in the nation. This historically farming and ranching community has morphed into a suburban community that includes many high-end homes alongside the vineyards in southern Livermore.
Livermore is home to a large state-of-the-art library and boasts a municipal airport, 46 parks, 2 public and 2 private golf courses, biking trails, a skate park and even a rock-climbing gym!
Livermore Valley is one of California’s oldest wine regions and is currently home to over 40 wineries, with several more about to open, and more than 5,000 acres of vineyards. Spanish missionaries planted the first wine grapes in the Livermore Valley in the 1760’s. The first commercial vines were planted in the 1840’s, and nearly 80% of California’s Chardonnay vines trace their genetic roots to a Livermore Valley clone. The 21st Livermore Wine Country Festival is scheduled for May 5-6, 2012.
It’s impossible to think of Livermore without mentioning the multi-million dollar renovation of the downtown area. Downtown Livermore is host to many fashionable shops and restaurants, as well as service businesses such as banks, beauty salons and spas.
Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center’s 500-seat Bankhead Theater is located on First Street in Downtown Livermore and energizes Livermore’s Arts & Cultural Scene.
Visit the Year-Round Sunday Farmer’s Market on Second St between J and K Streets each Sunday from 9a-1p.
Officially incorporated in 1876, a single ranch owned by Robert Livermore included much of the present-day city. One of the big events each summer, the Livermore Rodeo is celebrating it’s 94th Annual event on June 9-10, 2012. Come on out to see events like Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, Steer Wrestling and more.
